While out practicing some skills, my wife and I decided to cool off and at the same time, try out our power pole (it had been on for a few months). So, we rolled up the jib and pulled the boat over. As my wife straddled the lower hull (so she would be on the tramp when the boat righted) I set the pole out and "hung" on it to start the righting. It worked great!

However, as the boat started to come down, the long, deep dagger from the hull above my head, slid between my body and harness!...so, as the boat hit the water, I was pinned underneath it. I was able to free the board and come to the surface, but what a scare....

Just wanted to post this scenario.....

Have fun on the water!

I found that wearing a spray jacket over my bouyancy aid, avoids hang-up lig this with hook, tille bars and boards.

Might be an idea.

Good points! In addition, I slow the righting of the boat when it nears the point where it could bonk me on the head, etc. and try to get a hand on the daggarboard to help push me away from it should something unexpected happen.
