people in NSW what do think of them? Do they make good cat sails or are they just good at big boat sails?

Any comments welcome

Gday

If your looking at a new main or new sails, the safest bet would to get some from a sailmaker that has put a bit development into the mosquito sails, if this bloke has - then go for it. You would be better off sticking to what the big guns are using, for example Goodall would be the most obvious, Irwin, even give Ashby a crack at it (ex-Goodall) These guys have developed their sails over the years, right amount of depth, luff curve etc... to suit the weights of the sailors.

I know they're all Victorian, but its nothing a bit of extra freight won't fix.

Regards

I have been developing a sail with Gary Saxby at UK Halsey in Queensland.
I think we have come up with a great sail for Cat rigged.
He is using tape drive technology which lets you make a very light cross cut sail with kevlar re-enforcing tape attached in the direction of the loads.
Price is $ 1300 Delivered with Battens.

That's a very reasonable price.
Foam or glass battens (I assume glass for that price)? How many battens? Big-top or pin-head shape?

Can we see a photo?

The last nationals were won with a 3-4 season old Irwin. VIC states were also won with an Irwin - this one new. All Irwins have been consistently fast since they first arrived on Mosquitos 4 years ago.

There are some very fast Goodall mains out there (including one I own) but the last few I've seen built are all different and some not so good. I don't understand why they vary so much.

Did you give the sails a tryout at the Nationals?

Well done, I think that is the best advertisment you could have for the sails, (obviously the skipper had nothing to do with your performance). Only kidding. I hope the sails gain acceptance, the look great.

I had a No1 made for my mono and it worked an absolute treat, so much so that a new main was ordered and completed in no time at all. Ian has a wealth of information and was a great help setting up and had some suggestions to make a 1000 KG boat go faster than it should. Last to get was the new spin, when hoisted its a case of all to the back of the boat and hang on. On a downwind now we can keep up with the faster Hartleys that I sail against and sail away from the slower ones. I found his price to be very reasonable and he meets his delivery times.
Only problem now is that I need a No2for the mono and serious consideration for a main to go on the Paper Tiger, Wills got his Mozzie up for sail, gad decisions decisions decisions.
Isnt sailing a wonderful sport <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Sails, bit like Pandora's box so many choices.

All the above comments being said there was only one crew at the Nationals with sails designed and cut by the skipper (with some input from his boss, but his none the less.

Looking for good Mossie sails........have a look at those on 1707...done by a mossie sailor for mossies and being continually developed.

just thought I would throw my 2 bob in......ohhhh yes in the process of ordering a new jib, same cut as this one.
