firstly went out to start the race then was too busy talking to a mate and by the time I realized where I was i was over the starting gate. went to tack around then stalled it. By the time I got back to the starting line my div. were already racing so I decided to stay around and practice my tacks.
Secondly while I was flying a hull I noticed that I dug both bows in the water and I was heading straight over. luck enough it was in slow motion and I was able to let off all the main and get to the back of the boat.
But at the end I managed to get the boat to tack quite easily so it wasn't a waste of time out there.
All that needs doing is trying to set the traps the right height so Im not in the water and I can get out there easier.
Oh yeah it was 18kts gusting to 25kts and didnt capsize so I must be getting better slowly.

Perfect weekend (if you had a dry suit <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />)

One thing I notice out there was that you had far to much main out during the gybes and was turning through to large of an angle.

In good breeze, agression and confidence is the key to a safe gybe. Come in with speed, pull in the main most of the way still giving the head a bit of twist, then bring in the traveller as you are turning through the gybe and throw the boom across by hand, easing the traveller and sheet as you come out. Be prepared to steer down if the boat powers up too quickly.

If you get down to the club early this Sunday, I'll have a look at your boat and set the trap wires at a conservative hight for learning. I'll also take you out for a run on the Capricorn and give you some pointers.

Cheers

Thanks steve Ill be out there really early on sunday now that I have to get my boat.
I think the biggest problem is that I think my handles way to low so when I grab hold of it, its around my chin, I think I might have to change that.
