Unregistered | Hi all,
just thought I would mention that the Mossies where out in Paynesville on the weekend, even though Tim is away.
It was great to see sail number 516 , no I haven't forgotten any digits sailing. Proving you can't keep a old Mossie down, just some new decks etc. It was visiting and pleasure sailing, providing as much enjoyment to the owner as the latest Mossie could.
I sailed Tim's old boat 1659 "White side express". In a attempt to give some competition, to a new member on 1724 a timber boat and Neil on 1789 "Imunity".
It was windy gusting around 20 kts. so I had fun upwind but "Imunity" was way to fast tacking and off the wind as I expected . But it was fun to have a blast upwind.
Heard the Mossies where out on the bay on the previous 2 weekends any reports.
Seems that Mossies have built up a magnetic attraction to each other lately, from what I have seen and heard it is not a desireable feature .

I like the thread name
Last Saturday had a club race at Somers in windy and wild conditions. Gusts to 30 knots whilst rigging on the beach (Jeremy Pearse had to sit on the front beam to stop his Mozzie from bouncing around ). Lots of yachts didn't even leave the beach. Wind moderated slightly to around 22 knots with gusts to probably 27 knots.
Had difficulty getting off the beach and missed the start by 4 minutes (bugger ). Had the outhaul and downhaul on pretty hard for the rest of the race; no time to alter settings or raise the centreboards.
Seas were pretty big (2 m) with a strong outgoing tide and waves in the opposite direction. Plenty of breaking waves to surf down and nearly airborn a few times when closehauled into the waves. A real test for the old wooden hulls.
Had to keep dodging occasional clumps of seaweed and on a mad reach with spray everywhere saw a brown gey flash that I thought couldn't be seaweed. The flash returned in the form of a dolphin. Luckily it didn't surface between the hulls. I held grave fears for my centreboards but couldn't do anything about it.
The mozzie stood up to the challenge and so did I (even though I think my arms are now a bit longer than the were). The Hobie 16s were really going for it but kept nosediving and cartwheeling . I managed to not capsize or break anything and in so doing won the race.

Peter

Jeremy told me that you were planning to get down to Somers next weekend. That's great news. How's the new Mozzie coming together ? Are you good for a race or 2 ?
There's racing on Saturday at Somers Yacht Club start time 2:30 pm. There's also racing on Sunday at Westernport Yacht Club start time 1:30 pm. The social director has decreed that there is a social function that I must attend on Saturday afternoon. To get my fix I am considering racing on Sunday.
Hope to see you at Somers.
Regards,
Peter.

Unregistered | Hi Peter,
great to hear you knocking off the Hobies in the big stuff, which is when they are at their most competitive. Reminds me of the states at Balnarring some years ago. Kite surfers are not the only way to get air time .
Keep it up.

I trust that the new Mozzie is progressing well. Sorry to not see you at Somers on the weekend.
Sunday wasn't much good either. As soon as I got to the Yacht Club the wind started to die. Andrew and I got out on the sailboards instead. We sat in the water for about an hour waiting for some wind but we did eventually get about 15 knots of sea breeze.
Regards,
Peter

Nothing happening 23/24 Dec. 26 Dec is Boxing Day regatta at Somers and 27 Dec is start of Summer cup which scheduled over the end of year and new year period. Again family social activities get in the way on Boxing Day but I plan to race the Summer cup.
Regards,
Peter
