Damn this winter is had me planning all kinds of crazy stuff.
My most recent idea is to possibly attach a spin to the new 5.2 that I have. Has this ever been done and how much success did it produce?

Remember this is just winter rambling but I am interested in the possibility! It could add another level of sailing to what I do.

Once you go cat you never go back! Nacra 5.2 (Elsies)#1499, running an inter17 spin!

In the end you would be surprised how easy it is to do. The only problem is figuring out the measurement and then finding a suitable spin to attach. It is fun to add and fun to sail.

Its been done, the frankenboat (fearless) is a 5.2 with what I think is a spinnaker off a F17. www.1design.net and ask or search about the frankenboat.

Put a F16 pole and spinnaker on( I used an early Stealth, FX1 is about the same size ), I did about 4 years ago and it worked very well, made what was quite an underpowered boat, to be quite fun down wind, set the tip of the pole quite high and you won't pitchpole as you would expect, the spinnaker will generate lift as well as foward drive if you angle it enough.

We added a spi to a 5.5 , using an old surf mast, experimented a bit with variuos spi's [I-20 and f18] sizes. I agree with the previous comment-keep the tip high, this will make it easier to get used to the spi sailing
