Does anyone know what size rivets to use on the mast base? I want to re-rivet it on and I bought some 3/16, but they look a little too small just eyeballing them versus the rivets currently in the base. Thanks for your help.

Mine are 3/16 on both of my mast. I just changed a cheek block on one of my mast, and it had the 3/16 rivets with sleeves. I used regular ss rivets without sleeves, and it held great even though the rivets seemed loose in the hole before I pulled them.

Only have had my cat for a few days, but noticed a my base was little loose as well. A friend with the same boat had the problem just last month. He took it to sid sports in salt lake city (they are the only hobie dealer in Utah I am told) They drilled holes and put in new rivets.... Cost $100 dollors. I had a rivet missing and worn out holes in the mast as well as a broken hole in the mast foot(rivet hole) Center punched (in line with the old rivets) 4 new spots used a small drill to make first hole then sized upto the big bit drilled through like butter. new rivets read Aluminum multi-Grip 4 in 1 the are made to fit a 3/16 to 1/4 inch and look bigger and beefer then just the 3/16 rivet they are made to grip 1/4 to 1/2 . The bits I used were not labeled for size so I just went up intill the rivet just fit. Seemed to work great no movement after two windy days. Rapped some duck tape around the mast to try to make it water tight. If I did it again (and not on the beach after a stop at the hardware store on the way there) I think I would use stainless rivet of the same size and run a silacone bead between the mast and the foot as well as the rivet holes.

Hopfully aluminum rivets will hold has anyone had aluminum fail? I just guessed they would work and hope they will not rust. The whole repair cost $13 rivet gun $2 rivets $15 total hope it works!!!

Using aluminum rivets for the mast base is pretty risky. True no problem once the mast is up, but raising the mast puts a lot of stress on the mast base especially if you dn't get it set in the concave base and try to force the mast up. Better to use the 3/16 all stainless steel rivets.
