Because I'm in the process of building an F16 to my own design, I thought I'd do a bit of research into the design of the centreboard. I'd read in these forums of a rule limiting cb cant to only 6 degrees, which I'm happy to abide by, but couldn't for the life of me find it in the rules.

I've consequently discovered it in the definitions section, but the way I interpret it, the definition doesn't limit the cant, it just states that any centreboard like item that is canted at more than 6 degrees isn't a centreboard...so it must be something else. I'll call it a widget! Widgets aren't banned in the rules. (I'm being silly)

If F16's don't want more than 6 degrees centreboard cant for the class, it may be wise to move this definition to the actual rules, and worded something like "...centreboards shall not be canted more than 6 degrees from 'vertical'...", whatever vertical may be. I'm sure this is the intention of the definition, the intention just needs to be reinforced.

Gero,

The 6 degrees is set in the rules and when you are looking on the F16 website (www.formula16.org ) and look in the chapter "about F16" then go to F16 Definitions and then to part 7.13 you will find the 6 degrees rule.

Best regards,

Hans Klok

I think you should read my post again. I did find the 6 degree cant "rule" in the definitions section, however I don't think it will be very effective at stopping someone putting more than 6 degrees of cant in the board. My point is that it should be put in the actual rules for centreboards, not the definitions.

I realise that I may be splitting hairs, but the definition of a centreboard/daggerboard is well known by sailors, so having the F16 class redefine it seems silly.

I had the same problem as Nick, but I did not discover it until Wouter pointed it out for me while discussing banana boards. I also think it would be better to have the 6degree limit in the rules and not in the definitions.
