We've been working with Park Supt. Joe Montori to plan and build an enclosure near our present launch site for season-long storage of our boats, with masts up.
Mr. Montori is enthusiastic, but cautions that the wheels of the State park beaurocracy turn slowly; and get stuck sometimes. We're going to work with him to write a formal proposal in September. Our guiding example is Sandy Hook Bay Catamaran Club (SHBCC) Anybody with knowledge of the formation, structure, relstionship-with-authority, etc. of that club is implored to help us make this compelling to the NY State Park Department.
Heck, anybody with ideas for the proposal, please post them here.
Basic details go like this:
Target date: This coming Spring.
Expected Capacity: Dozens of boats; expandable if all goes well and there's demand.
Location: In between our present field, which is Seven, and the next one to the East, "Eight" there's a fenced-in area, with fresh water adjacent. Presently, the fence is three sides of a rectangel, aprox. 190' by 140' by 4 ft high. Mr. Montori has proposed to finish the box, put in suitable locked gates, raise the fence to 6 or 8 feet, install a hose, upscale porta-sans, (the kind with room to dress), provide a hose for the boats, and permit us to wheel our boats directly to the nearest beach, some 80' away, over hard-packed sand/dirt mix.
Cost: We expect to pay less than SHBCC, per boat, per season. SHBCC offers more in return for membership.
Winter Storage: So important for apartment dwellers, this is not out of the question.
What's your opinion?
Would you use this facility?
