It is all carbon. The mast is a Riba. He has since upgraded to a Glaser sail. He picked it up in Titusville, FL last summer.

Fortunately, I have 25 pounds (less body weight) on him.

I thought Bimare was making their own masts now. Can anyone confirm this?

If so are the Bimare masts made on a mandrel or in a mold?

The Riba HT masts that I've seen came out of a mold.

Bill

You're right Bill.
BIMARE started to make its own mast in the late 2005.
At the beginning of 2006 VectorworksMarine released the following announce (actually on BIMARE's web site):

QUOTE

BIMARE is proud to announce the opening of BIMmasts, its specialized composite division, provided with a 11 m long autoclave, for the manufacturing of masts, beams, booms and poles in carbon pre-pegs.
BIM masts, thanks to its state of the art equipment, highly skilled workforce and unsurpassed know-how matured in over thirteen years, is now ready to offer carbon masts and tubes at the utmost technological level and with the most appropriate bending characteristics.
BIMmasts autoclave delivers 6 bar pressures. Therefore its composite products, made from carbon pre-pegs cured under high heat and pressure feature oustanding weight to strength ratios.
The wise combination of layers of bidirectional carbon, both at 90 and 45 degrees, with biaxial and unidirectional pre-pegs makes possible the fabrication of masts with the selected bending curves.
The automatic control of pressure and temperature together with the accurate lay-up of the carbon fibres allows BIMmasts to produce masts which are exact copies of the prototype choosen for the setup of the sailplan.
All our composite products come from female moulds made from highly polished aluminium extrusions. Therefore our masts, beams and tubes show an excellent finish.

I hope this responds to yr questions.

I'm pretty sure that Riba is a brand name.

Any idea what the " anonymous XJ guy at Lake Lanier " paid for that boat?
