Mumbles Y.C Wales U.K | Whilst taking my usual Friday night stroll to the Yacht Club I looked out towards Swansea Bay and imagined racing my new Cat. What does this have to do with the Nations Cup I hear you say, well currently I have proposed 12 races over three days so the courses wouldn't be that big. However, pending the general consensus I am proposing only two races on the Saturday, one standard course and one long course. From Swansea Docks to Mumbles Pier is approximately 3.5 miles. The MYC quite often run races around the Bay and given the prevailing wind usually ends up with a 3 mile run, 1 mile reach, 3 mile beat back towards Mumbles and another 1-2 mile reach (large rectangle). Tornado's have been known to get from Mumbles to Swansea in 12 minutes (far quicker than using a car)
So given that a lot of UK F16's are sailed in ponds how do you like the idea of a couple of laps on a 8 mile course?

Also, as an aside I'll be down early and hope to sail both Wednesday and Thursday, do you have a guide to the water and any places / shallows / tides etc that need to be avoided ? Aside 2, Is there anywhere that has a wireless point I might be able to borrow a few times ?

As for a wireless connection the MYC bar is all set up for as long as you are drinking.

Looking for a Job, I got credi... | dang, have you guys really started the season? What is the air temperature down there? I was talking about the thursday before the event. But tomorrow, for where I sail, the forcast according to windguru in 5-6kts, and the BBC is 7mph and 10 Deg C. Very odd temps for Feb.

Mumbles Y.C Wales U.K | The MYC Sailing Programme lasts 12 months, from 1st November till March 31st racing is every other week. Then Spring to Autumn its up to three races a week. Air and Water temp never really drops below 6 degrees Celsius. So far this year the Dry suit hasn't been required just a good winter wet suit. Last weekend we had about 4 inches of snow on the Friday and the racing was held in near perfect conditions the following Sunday. Today as with Simon on the other side of the Country it was around 10 degrees C.

I could be up for that - depending on the weather, and me actually fixing the top of my mast properly. My temporary fix (tape, lots of) is good enough for sailing near rescue boats, but I don't trust it further than that. Getting it upright after it filled last time took 4 people... I don't understand why you are having so much trouble with the mast leaking. The foam-sealant method has been used so many times over the last 15 years that there is no reason for it not to work properly. Have you found the cause of the leaks Paul ?
If not then I have a suggestion of what could be the cause.

The cause of the problem was that the seal at the top of the mast failed completely.
Paul From what it looked like, there was some foam there to start with and then additionally whay tooked like bath tub sealent" on top of that; the boam had fallen down (or maybe been partly disolved by the sealent) and the sealent also did not seal. John just put a load of epoxy foam in and we then taped it up for the night. Job done I hope.

I was planning to come down on Wednesday evening and come out for a sail on the Thursday, but just to make things complicated I'll be starting in Munich on Wednesday afternoon, so I'm wondering if I should come up on Thursday morning. That said, Heathrow to Datchet to Mumbles is pretty straightforward, just means I need to pack everything I need for Mumbles a week in advance, which may require more preparation than I can manage. Paul High tide is 23:07 and so Mark P was suggesting going out around 19:00 for an hour or so I guess. I'm leaving Hitchin early (05:00) as I want to miss the traffic and get down early; If someone is around to take my trolley up the slipway I might get out earlier, or go back to the hotel for a sleep !
