Hello all,

I'm looking to create about 40 trophies for our club, and need some good ideas that are CHEAP, or should I say, inexpensive.

I've thought about cut up masts, even a cut up Hobie 16 hull, but want your input.

What's your favorite creative trophy?

What did you like about it?

Is it inexpensive, yet creative?

Post pictures if you have them.

Thanks,

Tim J.

Hi Tim. Our fleet has used various items, some in the general theme of the event such as old 45 records with custom labels for our "Viva Las Perry" Regatta as well as the cut-up masts (lots of work to make into mugs). One of my favorites is to take photos of the sailing teams with their boats when they are getting set up. Then, you have someone one-hour process and/or digital print and put the photo into a nice frame with a reference to the event/date. That's one that I keep on my desk, anyway.

Good luck from Fleet 149.

Are you getting T-shirts made? If so, ask your screen printer if they will print your T-shirt design out on pellons.

Ours charges us about $2 a pellon.

Then you can frame the pellon as a trophy.

Go to www.frameusa.com

You can order frames for cheap in bulk. I would also suggest that you purchase matting with a window box cut out.

This way you can make up several classes, and places to insert into the window box.

It's kinda neat to hang on the wall and it replicates the T-shirt. Kinda neat.

I've attached a copy of what we did this year.

Some cute stuff I've seen:

Cut up masts

Scanned images w/text, printed out, inserted into plexiglas frames

engraved mugs

embroidered bags

printout images laminated to wood

Wood plaques with sailboat profiles, the 'sailboat' was made of diagonally cut wall moulding

I've been playing around with craft-store paint which looks like stained glass. You paint the 'leading' and fill in the cells with paint which looks like glass when it's dry. You can paint it on glass or plastic. It looks very like stained glass, and if you don't mind some work can be a very nice looking inexpensive trophy.

The stuff is called "Gallery Glass" and it's made by the Plaid Enterprises co. out of Norcross Georgia. You can get the stuff at Michael's or any of the other craft shops.

In our college club, we buy those cheap PFD's, and spray paint them metallic gold.

A pellon is just your T-shirt design printed out on some silky woven fabric rather than a T-shirt. Just take the 'pellon' and insert it into a frame and you've got yourself a trophy.
