I have a Hobie Tiger chute that I intend to put on my Hobie 18. I have an end pole snuffer from an I20. I'm assuming that I want to make the sail geometry as close as possible to a Tiger so my questions are:
1) How long is the spin pole on a Tiger?
2) How high up the mast is the spin tang on a Tiger?
3) How far back from the front beam are the primary spin sheet blocks?

I plan to cut my spin pole (12') down to the length of a Tiger pole. Would there be any advantage to leaving it longer? I've got an all aluminum mast. Any other comments/advice?

Thanks,
Todd in MN

I have a tiger chute on my 18. Using a 12' endpole snuffer. Replaced mast with taller SX mast. The tang height is about 27', not sure but can measure for you this weekend while I'm working on it. My blocks are in the deck about a foot in front of the sidestays. I didn't rig the spin, Trey Brown did. I think the blocks could have been attached to the sidestay and would have done that had I installed it myself. Second blocks are on the crossbar. I also run a Tiger main and am completing the conversion to a self-tacking jib system this weekend. I'd be happy to help you as much as I can with measurements, etc. Personal e-mail is ncmbm@hotmail.com
Later checked my reply from Hobie on this, tang is 26'8" on Jacques' Tiger

I'm toying with the idea of adding a self-tacking jib to my P19MX, and I like the Hobie self-tacking hardware I've seen. If you're using the Hobie parts, do you have any idea what the radius of the jib track is?

The radius should be roughly the radius from the self tacker straight to the forestay in the same line the sheeting angle would be done. You want to be slightly flatter than this radius and definitely not MORE than this radius (if it is more, the jib would be tighter in the middle of the self tacker and wouldn't "self tack" with sheet pressure on.)

Thanks for the reply. I'll contact you off list if I have more questions.

If anyone else has any rigging/measurement suggestios, I'd love to hear them. I've got one vote for leaving my spin pole at 12'. I'm still curious abou the length of a Tiger's spin pole. Anyone have that number handy?

Thanks,
Todd

From the Tiger class rules:
Quote
The head of the spinnaker shall not be hoisted
higher than 8,150 mm (320.866 inches) from the
base of the mast extrusion.

There's no spec on the length of the pole in the class rules.

I have the system for an I-20. The new style with aluminum support struts. It is not yet installed but the boat is in the drive with the mast up ready for it to happen. I've been spending all my time mt. biking but the season is closing in so to work on the boat I must go.

That system actually sounds like what I'm looking for. Do you know what the I20 track radius is?

What about the 800 mm radial length ? See attached
