I'm in the process of getting a new mast. My problem is the base of my old mast seems overcrowded with rigging and being the only Mossie in Hervey Qld, (Sunny QLD), I have nothing to comapare with.
If any of you kind mossie sailers could post afew piccies of various mast setps, I'd be really greatful.

Is there any restrictions on the type of downhaul setup you can run on the mossie? I wanna try and get away from the crowded bottom of the mast.
Also can we change the setup of the mast rotation or is it a strict design rule?

As you can see, you don't need much at the base of the mast. If you want to go to the trouble of running an internal downhaul you can simplify the look of it even more.

In answer to the rules questions, you can do what you like for a downhaul or rotation control.

I can't emphasize strongly enough that everyone with a Mosquito should read the rules. They are not very long or hard to read, and a lot of wasted effort can be saved by checking first what can and cannot be done.

The National Mosquito association web site has the rules in PDF form to be downloaded.

My Shrouds are attached to the sides of the mast. Is there any pros or cons regarding attaching the shrouds to the front or sides.

Having the shrouds attached to sides would (to my thinking) interfer with mast rotation, so I would have mine attached to the front of the mast, AHPC make a hound fittind with two holes (on the front centreline of the mast) the bottom hole for the sidestays and forestay and the top hole for the trapezes.

The diamonds can be attach to the sides, you could T-Ball fittings as shown in the photo album as well.

I have attached an image of the AHPC Shroud/Mast fitting from the rigging photos. It will definitely make your mast work the way it was intended (free rotation and better airflow onto the sail).

In regards to mast set up, "bite me" we use internal downhaul (much tidier and works well) with diamonds going all the way to the mast base plate, shrouds coming off in front and diamonds from where diamonds are supposed to be attached at the top, with T Balls.

Happy to send you some pics if you want, we will have the internal downhauls system simplified this winter so it can be fitted easily and by anyone, hope for it to be all "cassette" assy....just easy.

Got my first new hull in the jig. Only one small split.

Have you looked at the photo album Ben gave the link to before. There are 3 pages of photos and stacks of close up photos of masts.

the split in the hull where abouts is it and how hard is it going to be to fix, i put a small split in the front, in my first hull, about 40mm long it has taken a bit of time to repair, on my second hull i used a steam cleaner, used for cleaning kitchens, i belive it helped.

Pat,.....sorry that I have not got back to you sooner but have been sort of busy. I will try to get youngest to take some pics for you and then post them up here, not an issue.

Seems that this subject put the mokkers on me as far as masts go....now need to build myself a new one after little incident in Goolwa to Milang....this will give ame a good chance to put some more ideas into practice before building youngest a new one for next season...along with new and hopefully improved boom setup
