08/17/17 12:46 PM Dimensions Prindle Mast Step Hinge by sailfun

Recently I bought a prindle 18 2. Unfortunately the mast step link hinge is missing so I want to make a new one.
Does anyone know the right dimensions so I can rebuild it?

Thanks for any answer

08/11/17 08:14 PM Youtube is spoiling my new 55 OLED screen by northsea junkie
Bought a new OLED screen and wanted to test this with a new vid from my HD helmet camera.
Camera directly connected gives a super picture, but the result on YouTube is a bit of a disappointment:

Moreover Flash doesn't work anymore in Windows 10 + Edge; so I cannot add music nor make the pictures with sofware better.
And why when I upload a quality 1020, get a quality 780 result?

Any suggestions?

08/07/17 04:06 PM Mast Hits Power Line by hobie1616

3 Texas Boy Scouts shocked by power line on deadly sailing outing. 11-year-old clings to life.

And aboard a catamaran in an alcove called Alley Creek, two teens with Eagle Scout distinction were mentoring an 11-year-old troop member on how to sail.

For a while, all was well on the water. Then suddenly the catamaran caught fire, and the scouts onshore were shouting for help.

08/03/17 02:00 PM Indian Summer Regatta, Lake Waccamaw, NC by abbman
Please come join us for some excellent racing on one of North Carolina’s beautiful natural lakes. Lake Waccamaw is located in Southeastern NC and is the largest of the state’s “bay” lakes. Waccamaw Sailing Club is proud to announce our 44th Annual Indian Summer Regatta, October 14-15, 2017.

Many catamaran classes are expected to attend. Three boats makes a class! Tell your friends!

Lake Waccamaw Sailing Club is situated on a sandy shore along the lake. There are plenty of grassy areas for rigging and beach access for launching. We also have boat ramps if you prefer to launch in that manner. We have large male/female changing rooms, hot indoor and outdoor showers, and restroom facilities. We will be serving a catered chicken and BBQ dinner Saturday night under our large, spacious pavilion.

There is plenty of room to accommodate R/V and tent camping. Please pm me if you have any questions about camping or need help with lodging. The NOR contains details about accommodations. Feel free to pm me with general questions as well.

Online registration, as well as the NOR, can be found here:

Monohulls are also welcome to attend this event. I know we all have friends that haven’t yet seen the light, but please tell them to bring their boat and join a variety of other monohulls on the water. Catamarans will have no issues.

*****Note to monohulls: Waccamaw is a shallow lake, averaging only 8-9 feet in depth. It is consistently 8-9 feet throughout the center of the lake, but retractable centerboards/keels are needed for launching at our facility. There is a state ramp that can accommodate deeper keels .*****

07/24/17 09:32 AM Wind Generator Charge Controller by mariaevinne
After extensive research on charge controllers I have found that they operate differently for wind generators than they do for solar arrays.

For solar arrays:
When a charge controller is used with a solar array, it is in the charge path and will"disconnect" the solar array from the batteries when the batteries are full. Apparently this stops current flow without damage to the array.

For wind generator:
Wind generators must always have a load (batteries or dummy) to push their power to so diversion control is needed. It is my understanding is that when used in diversion control mode, the charge controller is NOT in the charge path but monitors the batteries in a shunt fashion. When the batteries are full, the controller siphons power off the batteries to prevent overcharging.

What I am looking for is a charge controller that will actually brake the wind generator when the batteries are full. I have heard of these but have not found one yet.

I recently purchased a Xantrex C60 for my KISS wind generator but don't savor the idea of running additional wires to a dummy load or to the water heater. I am not comfortable with a big resistor heating up on my boat nor do I like the idea of running additional wires back to the heater option.

Any feedback you can give on other make/models would be greatly appreciated.

07/21/17 04:54 PM Hobie 20 Mast Post by Ventucky Red
Anyone here replaced the mast post on a Hobie 20 Miracle?

I was looking this over and with the parts diagram, this looks to be a little involved than the Prindles' and NACRAS' I am use to working on.... few questions:

Can this be done with the beam still on the boat? Or will the beam need to come off?
What is the best way to get to the internal tension nut.. I am thinking a wobble with a socket extender may get me the angle I need?

07/17/17 10:19 PM Nacra / Inter composite mast top with sheave by Jake
Wasn't there someone on here looking for the Nacra / Inter composite mast cap with the sheave in it recently? I was cleaning out some stuff this weekend and found one that looks like it's never been used. I also found other standing rigging stuff too.
