Just a small comment.

An F-16 class where carbon masts ruled would not have made it very attractive to me. Why? The extra cost for the tube would have been enough for a poor homebuilder to stop the project. This is just me (and my current crew, Frode), but with alu Tornado masts a dozen a dime (almost) an F-18 or F-16 can be buildt at an affordable cost. Frode paid US$250 for a Tornado mast to go on his F-16 just three weeks ago. I paid a similar amount for an old IYE Tornado mast to go on my boat earlier.
