I think there is kind of a "gentleman's agreement" not to do that unless in the case of injury, divorce or a crew member is otherwise incapacitated. There have been instances that BEFORE a regatta starts, a boat has stated the intention of sailng 2-up on Saturday and dropping to 1-up on Sunday because of a work conflict for the crew. All done well in advance of any accurate weather reports.

I don't think the intention is for all the crews to be on the beaches when the wind lightens up - but I wouldn't complain if it kept you in the regatta instead of not competing for a day.

Of course, this is my opinion only.
