42 percent is what I set mine to which matches my sail.

What sort of sail do you have?

The "spread of percentages" is outside the range I would be happy with.

I mark 42percent on the batten then use a belt sander to get the bend I am looking for. Always have to check it in the sail up the mast so it takes alot of sanding then put the sail up, check it, pull sail down and more sanding then repeat.
