I'm not sure releasing the rudders by lifting the rudder arms or tiller crossbar is a good idea. You are putting upward lift or force on the weakest part of the plastic cam. When the rudders kick up they are putting forward thrust on the cam to rotate it. My rule of thumb is that if you can lift your crossbar at sea, your rudder locks are not properly adjusted.
