ABYC has decided to submit a bid for the 2012 Worlds. The International Class may or may not accept it. The constraints of having the event in the dead of winter are not conducive to an event that will have good weather except for some of the very Southernmost parts of Florida where resources become difficult. ABYC will be proposing sometime around September. A successful event has logistical resources (race committee volunteers and equipment, a good beach, room for containers and an RV city), proximity to transportation hubs (like Los Angeles - shipping, air and rail), and a good chance for favorable weather.

ABYC has hosted the Tornado and I-14 Worlds. They have National-level race officers and the foundation for an International Jury. I think they'll put together a strong bid, but it will be up to the International Class to decide what to do with it... the F18 Worlds in AUS only drew about 80 boats. The Tiger Worlds in March of 2005 drew 100. If they want to have a Worlds in the US, there has to be some concession with regard to geography, budget, and breeze and an acceptance that even if the event were in January, a limited number of Euros would come.
