The purpose of the side laced tramp was to fix the problem with the original tramp which was the bolt rope pulling out. My system was designed to deal with the problem of the new system not only slicing through the webbing straps but also getting pulled out of the slot near the dagger trunks. The fiberglass rod spreads the load out when you put your foot near the edge of the tramp - and the solid area doesn't pull out or get cut period.

As for air escaping - thats a secondary requirement to actually having a trampoline that stays in place... in my book anyways.

Note: My system has the added benefit of being able to mount blocks on shackles for trap bungie running under the tramp from the fiberglass rod.
