They're simply different types of records. As long as there is significant effort in trying to break any particular record, the achievement is notable. One craft that is good at one is probably not so good at another.
Hydroptere does have goals of setting long distance ocean records. They have to start somewhere.
I suppose but H. seems to me the equivalent of a AA fuel dragster of the sailing world. I'm personally more interested in Le Mans.
