This year was the 2nd slowest race since the race started running
Saturday was my longest day on a beach cat. It was very slow going and very frustrating to be drifting out there at night. But those who quit missed the really good sailing on Sunday with decent 10- to 12-knot breeze out of the right direction. Despite having really bad luck on Saturday, we (Team Morada) made up for it on Sunday; we took a "super-secret" river out of Buttonwood Sound that was less than half a mile long and popped us out onto Blackwater sound without having to dip our paddle in the water even once. In fact the current was so strong we had a headwind a few times and still scooted along nicely. We trapped out across Blackwater Sound on a great spinnaker reach and finished with the chute up. I don't know if we saved much time, but after Saturday, not having to paddle was worth the extra mileage.
Though my butt is still chapped from Saturday's marathon, overall it was a fun event with a bunch of really fun people.
