It's been done but you really gotta check the weather before trying. When the trades are blowing it can get very hairy very fast. From my house I can see a well defined windline. On the inside, the water is pretty flat but the wind is still blowing at a decent speed. On the outside, it's wall to wall white caps with the wind piping up to 25 knots plus.
