is this the same race that runs at the same time as the newport to ensenada? why not do the real race. who cares if they don't let the beach cats in. like in the hard way race after a few brave crashers ,we are now allowed. i know there are already newport to ensenada crashers. kudo's to those sailors

why not go to ensenada? how bout all-night drifting, kidanppings, border hassles, road hassles, et. al. Mission Bay is a wonderful place which is in the u.s., has great facilities, and, maybe best of all, might allow you to be in the barn for **** hour.

a little over blowen. kidnaps. very rare.i personally don't know of a single case in recent years that didn't involve some sort of supidity by the americans. the mexican gov. works with sailors. never had a problem. especially if you file a float plan. call ahead and pay your fee's. i've crossed the boarder at least 10 times towing never had a problem. with both the TheMightyHobie18 and the viva 27. never an inpection. just a wave thru. at both chula and mexicali. its a two or three lane highway from ensenada to the us. as for drifting its sailing sometimes the wind doesn't blow. i'll agree with you mission bay is is a very nice place. and so are the bars. i think i understand the big issue here ORCA. and there subjective rules. thats why i say crash their race. then have your race on a different weekend and ban the orca boats.

I am with you! Crash it. Prove that beach cats are not toys. I tried to get some beach cat racing in the Seattle area. The response was a big fat NO! The reason: the boat is not self-righting. (but they let 49'ers race?!)

So, during the next J-24 nat's in Seattle, a front came thru and about 2 or 3 J boats are at the bottom of the sound. No one was hurt, that is good. What is funny is that I suggested that J-boats not be allowed to race, for the same reason as beach cats...

You guys can guess the response

All boats are created equal except some are a little more equal than others.

“like in the hard way race after a few brave crashers, we are now allowed”

First off we didn’t or should I say I didn’t crash this race, it was the last race in this series the Tri-Point – and even then I didn’t crash that. I had contacted the sponsoring yacht club to let them know I was going to be out there etc… It was after my running (shadowing the fleet) this race and Mike Dobbs doing it the year prior we showed the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club we could safely run these two other two races of the series. and they agreed to allow beachcats into all of the races for the Land Rover Island Series for 2006 with a catch – we need to have more that five entrants for the class for all three races, and that we police ourselves on the safety request put forth by the PBY Race Committee. Needless to say we had one of the strongest classes with no less than 8 boats pre registered and a much as 11 boats for the Milt Ingram Race. And we are again allowed in for 2007 with the same constraint of no lees the five boats per race pre registered

As for the Newport to Mission Bay, personally I think this is enough racing for a cat for that event – I agree with Mitch on the hassles that you can get into south of the border not so much as being held captive by federalize but all the hoops you need to jump through, and the Mission Bay Yacht Club is a first class organization when it comes to beachcats.

BTW “avalondarlyn” are you going to enter the Land Rover Series this year? We lost one of our fleet – Lee Wickland has moved to Texas to be closer to the distance events down there and in Florida.

Here is a pix comming of the West End of Anacapa in last years Tri-Point

I have sold the viva. and i'm currently working in new york. but if you send me the dates via PM i'll make arrangments to show for at least one of them. I'll ask my friend from northern cal to come. I'll crew with him ,if he can't. I'll see if Friesen can help me corrdinate a ride. i agree mission bay yacht club is good organzation. I'm done ranting.

gps time makes it real easy, the honour system for results and everyone takes responsibility for themselves. newport to mission bay, 80 miles and **** hour! I'd also like to do santa barbara to channel islands on the day of the s.b to king harbor race. we gotta jump start distance racing on this coast...

Mitch,

I heard that a couple of years ago, a roland 36 'crashed' that and set a 'record'.

A friend of mine on 'afterburner' told me about it...do you know about it, or if the roland is still around?

2 of 10 is the rolland, currently parked, very fast and well-handled. don't know about setting a record but it wouldn't surprise anybody if they did. if you wanna buy i think it's still on the sailing anarchy classifieds. i give it 2 thumbs way up!
