Woody Cope's Hobie 20 was stolen from inside the Davis Island fence 10? years ago. I never heard whether their big gate was locked at the time or not. This electric gate could be opened easily from the inside at the time, and was hardly secure.

Whenever I leave a cat on its road trailer I take the coupling. Just two bolts.

“stealing is evil, but there is a philosophy that recommends non-violence and compassion. under that philosophy you would be compasionate towards the thief and try to understand a lesson that may be learned from the evil act.
not only that a positive view point is generally healthier and the parts may come back to you somehow.”

What a crock…Philosophy’s like that is the reason the world is so screwed up…There is no consequences for unacceptable behavior…We all hold hands and feel the perpetrators pain…there is a million excuses for doing “wrong” things in life…but the truth is they are just selfish children (many times in adult bodies) that were never held accountable for their actions.

If there is no punishment associated with illegal behavior, there is no reason for the person without morals to do anything less than gear their life towards self indulgence by any means possible.

When I was a teenager a guy stole a local commercial fisher mans small skiff…he was caught by the owner and his friends…they counseled him in a way that had a real impact…seems he “fell down” a few times while he was trying to run away before the police finally showed up. I doubt he ever stole another boat.

It seems now when something is stolen it is the owners fault…He didn’t have it locked up behind 12’ barbed wire fence with guard dogs, an armed patrol,
And 10,000 dollars worth of electronic surveillance camera equipment.

From the police perspective...theft?...thats what you have insurance for...

Regards, Bob

Here's an update......Over the weekend I was at the boat cleaning and looking over rigging, etc. I noticed on the tramp were the bridle wires. Whoever stole the parts off the boat, took the time to disconnect the bridle wires from the spinnaker pole attachement/roller furling drum, and forestay attachment!! Can you believe that shi**!! Please excuse my French, but I'm sure you can understand my frustration!!!

If your havin girl problems i feel bad for you son

It is sad we can never understand stupid, hard up people. I guess I have been lucky around here. Left my Hobie 17 with bridle foil, furler and reacher attached up for two months and no trouble in storage lot when doing Wednesday nights. BUT I always removed blocks.

Hope you somehow fin them.

Doug

I'm not sure I understand the previous comment about "naughty" vs. "wrong". Is that like being "sort-of" pregnant?

You either take things that aren't yours ("wrong") or not. Even if the reason is somehow justifiable, the act is still wrong.

And I would still be in favor of a good swift kick in the nuts vs. a slap on the head, unless it's with a 2x4!

Ahh, but the swift kick in the nuts could possibly eliminate the scoundrel from the gene pool, whereas the slap to the head with a 2x4 could possibly eliminate him from...everything.
Choices, choices, choices...

What did they do to a guy in the old days of the "wild west" if he stole the saddle off your horse? It's sort of similar.

Of course, if he stole the whole horse, that would be another step up, as far as punishment.

I believe the penalty for horse stealing was hanging, on the spot! Not sure about saddles...I guess that would depend on if the saddle was still attached to the horse??

It was not me that made that distiction.
I said naughty as opposed to EVIL. Evil is an eronius construct of religious dogma which suggests that for stealing a few bits of a boat a person should never be allowed to rest in the light of the omnipotent one for all eternity. I think that is a bit tough for the offence sighted and a slap in the ear would be more reasonable and loving.
So far the guy who took the kit was RIGHT not WRONG because he has some groovy free boat stuff. (If he took the time with the bridle he was a cat guy by the way)
The young woman (equal opotunity) who stole these things is to some degree a sociopath who does not buy into the structure of our society and the idea that honest work gives a degree of right to securely own material things.
Wrong and bad and evil are eronious as is waiting for the universe to give me my stuff back.
Some of us are just venting about ratbags who steal others hard earned stuff and are suggesting it would be gratifiing to give them a whack for their trouble.

The hanging judge is out there so better be careful what part of the parrarie we steel at.

I hate theives, if you cannot afford it - you cannot have it, work harder and save some cash untill you can buy it yourself, if I caught him he would definatly fall down a few times before the cops got there. I am fortunate enough to sail with a great group and I leave all my boat stuff with the boat, or in the sail storage area(not locked) all summer, occasionally something minor is borrowed(shackle or somthing) but it always comes back the same day, and i usually get a call to make sure i won't need it that day before it goes out. we also have a rule that I really like.. if you break it, up-grade.
