Posts: 17 Seattle, WA | Hello All, Today I managed to chip-out a portion of the starboard hull cap/rim where the "footstrap" is. Being curious, I checked the Hobie 16 assembly manual for the proper reference and found that this item was probably added by one-of-two previous owners. The first image: A (blurry) close-up: Would anyone have a suggestion as to the best repair? I think the fiberglass would need to be re-structured to handle the expected stress. Thanks in advance, Eric

Cut the anchor in the middle where thread hole is. Now put in drill press and drill a hole in the center of each of the two pieces so you can tap for a 5/16 fine thread bolt. Use this for the rear of each footstrap and you have a bulletproof footstrap anchor that will spread the load correctly across the inner hull seam. Make sure that you use a large washer on top of stap to prevent pull out. Rope is okay put a lot of pressure on your foot in a small area. Windsurfer type foot straps or 2 inch wide nylon strap works best. This is the standard on Fort Lauderdale Beach for Big surf reaching on the wire. | | |
