Posts: 126 | your trailer was probally home built and thus may not have a serial. Maybe you can explain that to them and they will not require one, but I'm not sure.

Posts: 263 SC | When I had my hobie 20 I needed a trailer serial # that didn't exist, My agent let me get out the engraver and make one up. That might work for you as well.

Posts: 1,187 38.912, -95.37 | My 20 trailer is homebuilt. I emailed my agent a half dozen pictures which was enough to suffice him and the underwriters.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | My insurance agent needs a serial number on my boat trailer to have it insured, but I can't find one on it anywhere. Where is it? What should I do if I can't find one? Thanks in advance. It's 5920.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | Nah. You've got to throw a few letters in there to make it look official:
Your VIN is 2BT26S8675309
The "BT" is beachcat trailer The "S" is single axle The "26" is the length of the trailer (in feet) The rest is jenny's number

Thanks in advance. Trailer VIN's are often put on with stickers that come off after a while. I think this will depend a lot on what State you are in (assuming US). Do you have paperwork (title, old registration, bill of sale) with the number? I live in a state that titles trailers. I have bought two boats with trailers from non trailer title states that no longer had stickers with the VIN number. But I had the number, so I engraved/stamped them onto the trailers. The state motor vehicle administration where I live will actually issue new VIN's and ID plates to home made trailers with no VIN. "Home made" seems to be treated liberally. I would think just to get a license plate / registration you would need a VIN number, but that may vary by state. As for insurance, my auto insurance covers towed trailers and homeowners covers theft/storm damage, etc. No specific listing of a trailer (as long as below some $ limit) is needed.
