Dunno if it covers the lakes in your area--I'm assuming you'd like to know about Kerr, Jordan, etc. I used to live in Hillsborough, up the road from Durham.
For inland lakes, there is often a consistent local pattern to the wind; e.g. for Lake X, the wind is nil until 2pm, when it whips up to 15mph if the weather is above Y degrees and the humidity is below Z percent and then dies off at sunset.
Becoming your own weatherman is, ultimately, the most useful approach. Then you can watch the weather on the news and predict the wind that will accompany those conditions at your local lakes. The only time the usual "local pattern" is broken is if a powerful weather system roles through (eg Isadore, or a few years ago in the Triangle, Fran).
