Gang:

May have a 3 month jib in St Joseph or Carrolton Missouri on Hastings Nebraska. Sundays off, any sailing around there I can catch a ride on?

Come to Lake McConoughy in southwestern Nebraska over the Labor Day weekend. It's Hobie Div. 5 Championships and there will be 40 or more boats. The lake 18 miles long and two miles wide with a white sand beach around the entire thing. The wind blows steadily and if you didn't know better, you'd think you were on the Gulf Coast - without briny water. All first-timers to this lake are amazed that it's is in Nebraska. Check out www.hobiefleet61.org for more information.

McConoughy is right outside of Ogalala. Not too bad a drive from Hastings. Johnson is right by Hastings. There is not much in the way of cat sailing around there, but a huge fleet of Snipes, Scows etc. The old Fleet 192 (Not much left of it now) sailed out at Branched Oak north of Lincoln. Not a bad lake and I hear there is water in it again. For racing you still have Perry KS and Wichita, Des Moines IA, Yankton, SD all Hobie only still I believe. There is a handfull of other lakes that are great to sail at all within a few hours drive.

Our favorite place to sail was Calamus resevoir near Burwell. Not many people, clear fresh water and miles of pure white sand beaches and always windy. If you want even more remote, Merrit Resevoir by Valentine is a beautiful place to sail as well.
