I wouldn't think of selling a copy at all. That wouldn't be very cool!
In the end, sail design is probably a little beyond me. I did love playing with the sailcut software though looking at the twist and luff curve.
This should probably be its own thread (ooo... maybe ask rick to add a forum on "amateur" sail design).
I did learn a lot just by hanging one of my sails between two trees and looking at the luff curve. It is amazing what you can learn just by looking at the amount of curve and where its apex is. It makes you think more about spreader location/rake/prebend and lets you know what your mast would look like if you were to make the sail completely flat
In the end, might be nice to build a poly tarp sail and see how it comes out
About the "copying"- may be a silly question but when sailmakers make a sail- can it be laid completely flat on the ground? Seems like my new sail can which is the only way an amateur could make a square cut copy. If so, I can't see how it wouldn't work. The change would come with the different stretch characteristics when changing from a radial layout to a square cut pattern. The reason I think the square cut would work is that the original HT sail was square cut and seems like a lot of HT (at least Jav2) sailors believe the original Bimare main is one of the fastest sails available for the Jav2.
BTW, what is broadseeming?
