I was considering a Hobie 11 in great shape for the age. I know it is more of a one-man boat with a cap. of not much more than 250lbs. Are sails and other parts still available for this model? What else should I be worried about. Any one have one? How do you like it?

Hobie bound!

250# is a stretch on those "mini 14's". I've heard that they do best with less than 120# - it's definitely a kid's boat (that's what they were introduced as).

Anybody can make a sail for it. Talk to Chip at Whirlwind & he can give you a ballpark of what a new sail would cost.

Hobie Cat does not make parts for it. If you break a corner casting, you're done.

They show up on eBay every now and then - that's your best source for parts.

Yeah, I would say that would not be the boat for you, in all honesty even the 14 is not the boat for you, look into single handing a 16 at 250 pounds.

"Hobie Cat does not make parts for it. If you break a corner casting, you're done."

>>The hobie 11 was a hard deck "monocat" it didn't have castings like the 14 and 16.

>>As for the boat, the one I sailed (20 +? years ago) had open cell styrofoam for flotation and it sucked up a ton of water. Also just about the time the boat felt like it might get "in gear" the water flow around the rudder would blow out and it never got moving.

Bob

Sorry Seeker, but you are talking about a different boat than the rest of us.

The boat you are thinking of was the Hobie MOnocat, which is basically their Bravo from years ago.

The boat we are talking about is basically the Hobie 14 cut down to 11 feet with wooden rudders. Hobie made it for one of his kids, it was tiny and only for kids.

I stand corrected...

Note the wooden rudders.
