Posts: 757 japan | machines left out in snow generally suffer less problems than those left out in rain
the biggest problem with freezing is water expansion in pipes and radiators. water just sitting in the hulls doesn't seem to cause any problems when it freezes
at least that's been our experience storing our boats over winter
i've even pulled up and restored a fiberglass dingy that spent 8 years at the bottom of a lake that froze over most winters. a few bubbles in the gelcoat that shouldn't be there but eveything else seems fine structually

Posts: 2,921 Michigan | I usually try to put the trailer up on cinderblocks to get the wheels off the ground during long-term storage. Next year I need to replace the wheels anyway, so I didn't bother this winter.
One thing to note. If you store your boat under a tarp with the mast as an A-frame. You need to be careful about how much weight from snow/rain builds up on the tarp. One time I noticed a lot of water had pooled on a tarp, and it bent the mast quite heavily (the mast had rolled with it's side facing up rather than the stronger front facing up).
sm Thats a good point about using the mast that way. I need to cover a larger boat this winter (should probably be shrink wrapped) and was going to do that but I will figure out something else. | | | Re: Cat trailer on ground in snow...is this OK???

Are you seriously worried about snow in Pensacola? HA! I wish. I moved to Michigan in August. The blade is snug in my garage in Fl. The larger boat will be up here (who knows where they will all be as the years go on). | | |
