I bought a set of used beach wheels for my Nacra 500 and was wondering what kind of PSI you guys put in them. I dont want to pop one due to too much air pressure(kind of expensive). I bought the smooth tire, red wheels, adjustable cradles.

Not a big deal...Just wondering what the normal PSI was.

There should be a "Max Circumference" listed on the sidewall of the tire.

I vaguely recall my CatTrax having a max circumference of 64 inches.

It doesn't take much pressure to get there. I think 8 - 10 psi might be high.

Mine have a PSI rating on the sidewall and they say 10psi max. They are hard as a rock at that point, you can certainly do with less.

Bottom line - go with what's printed on the sidewall.

Both Euro Trax and Cat Trax have always lost air. Finally I discovered a solution. Tubes! I had the local garage at Put-in-Bay install the tubes and they are always ready to go.., with no hand pump work required. Works great.

I've also found that the glue holding the valve in its rubber sleeve can rot after a year or so - so there'll come a time when you try to remove the dust caps and end up pulling out the valves. A solution is to grease the dust cap threads before ftting, and to keep the pressure low to avoid a "blowout" (5 psi works for me). I found that rubber solution glue does not set, but it offers enough resistance to stop the valve popping out at a low pressure.

Of course, you can replace the valves (or tubes) periodically, but this solution will work when disaster strikes at the start of a sailing day.

Rick, you are SO right! Same thing happened to my lawn tractor (OK, hold the redneck jokes)...

I've often wondered why they were always promoted as "tubeless" like that is supposed to magically be better than tires with tubes? Is that just marketing trying to get us to fall for something that costs the manufacturer less to produce?

Actually a tubed tire is more likely to fail. Virtually nothing runs tubes. But a good fix for a low stress application like this.

What section of the OnlineMarineStore are the tubes sold under? I'm trying to get my trax ready for the season and a tube is looking like the best way to go.

Hey Rick, will these tubes work in EuroTrax?

I put tire repair goop in my tires. The first time I did it was maybe 10-12 years ago. Last year they started leaking again, and I put in some more. I think I've added air once since then. I used Slime brand this time. It claims to seal holes 1/4" in diameter. We put some in one of our club's trailer tires that I thought it would never seal. One large ball of green slime flew out of the tire, then it was sealed.

I just filled my tires with concrete. Now they never go flat. Of course it takes 4 of us to push them up the beach... but they aren't flat! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I put about 8 ozs of repair goo in each tire, so about 1 pound total. Since a bicycle tube can weigh close to 0.5 lb, I would guess installing the inner tubes would add at least 1 lb and probably closer to 2 lbs.
