Hey, I used to live up in New Hampshire, right next to Vermont, but it never got "hot". Come on down to Florida now, I'll show you hot. The lake water out back is 92F right now. Yeah, that's just the water. The Gulf of Mexico is about 83F I think, but it will warm up to the high 80's in July and August.

There'll be none of that "jump in the water to cool off" down there!

I find the middle of the sheet; push this thru the clew eye on the kite and then push the tails thruy the loop and pull tight.

I then thread the sheets thru the blocks and knot them over each other.

when you get really good, you'll be able to string it up without hoisting it!

I'm content if it comes out of the bag, isn't tangled, and everything is as it should be. One of the first times I rigged the spinnaker I had to go back to the beach I think three times to get everything straightened out.

We found a good way to do it, and keept to it every time. What we did was
1: Tie the head to the halyard (Mark the head)
2: follow the luff tape down to the tack, tie the tack to the tack line
3: follow the foot tape back to the clew, tie in the sheet
4: Thread and tie the retrieval line
5: Hoist the spi partially to check it and snuff it

Threading the retrieval line was the only thing we needed to be careful about. Easy to mess it up, so doing exactly the same way every time is good. Marking Clew, tack, head and the luff tapes if they are not color coded is good.

I follow the same principal, but I have a 2m bit of "string" I use to keep the eyes in line on the downhaul, one end has a fig 8 stopper knot in it.

When de-rigging the kite, I thread the "string" thru from the bottom eye, thru middle and tie at the top.

Thus, I should, never thread the downhaul wrong!

Karl,
I can show you a few tips at Shell Lake, or Green Lake if you go. Should be able to rig the chute without hoisting. This is especially true when the breeze is up, that is a good way to break a mast, flip your boat, and shorten the life of your spinnaker all at the same time. Only reason to raise the chute on dry land is to check the luff tension. Do that once and mark the halyard. Also I have pigtail splice into on my spnn sheet. If you like that idea I could help with that too. See you in July.

PS I will be sailing on Big Marine Lake over the forth, you are welcome to bring your boat up and leave it on the beach. Send me an email if interested.

yes. That's what I do all the time. I put the sheets through the grommet in the clew in opposite directions and tie figure eight knots in the end of each side of the sheet.

If you put them through in the SAME direction, the knots are always infront and it runs round the forestay better

Wouldn't both ends be behind one one tack this way?
