Posts: 1,911 South Florida & the Keys | I have started talking with Dennis at Barefoot Studios to make a snuffer that we could adapt to the ARC21. One of the questions he asked me(that I can;t answer) was, what is the diameter if the sail after it has been scrunhed by the snuffing line that runs thu the patches. Can one of you Nacro 20 or tornado guys measure the opening of your snuffer and the length of the bag to give me a starting measurment?

Posts: 1,304 Gulf Coast relocated from Cali... | Dennis is in the process of making one for an I 20 right now. He should already have that info. I'll measure mine in the am if you don't have it by then. We're running the same snuffer socks as the F18's, if that helps.

equally an after market tramp mat gives an unfair advantage... so the class rules say...

make you wonder what goes through their minds besides money... Frankly, it IS an advantage. The N20 snuffer hoop is too small for the spinnaker size which makes setting and dousing extremely physical and slow. A properly designed snuffer can take a second or better of the set and when your boat moves at a hull length per second...that's a significant advantage around the cans. If I could have legally changed ours I would have done so a long time ago.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | For the bag length measure from where on the pole you want the snuffer to sit. On the snu on my tiger I moved iy up 6 inches in front of the bridle. Makes snuffing easier if you start to round up. Then measure back to the end of the pole . Thats the bag length. Or you can hold your arm in a small circle and pull the spin through with the snuffer line attached. Like your arm was the mouth and find out how long you need. Or measure from your two upper/lower-most snuffing points to the corner(s) of the spinnaker...that's bag length.

Posts: 1,304 Gulf Coast relocated from Cali... | Hey Lee,
I hate to be *that guy* but you realize that a snuffer made for your N20 outside of performance isn't class legal.... I am fully aware of that. I'm just making a reference to what is being used. I ONLY use class legal hardware on my boat. Especially for Tybee and GT300 since it would really suck to get DSQ'd after laying out all that dough for the race. The SNU is for a SanDiego N20. I actually will get to try it out since it's going on the boat that I'm using in the Border Run Race this year in April.

Now I get it.. they are making more money from the extra wear and tear on kites... that is really harsh, has anyone tried to change the rules through the class association?

Posts: 1,304 Gulf Coast relocated from Cali... | Actually I was the one who got the rule changed for the rotator arm to be relocated to the base. I set mine up that way before the Tybee in 07. Not knowing it was an infraction, I was threatened with protest at a later regatta. Then went through the channells of the Nacra class (one guy actually)to get the change. I doubt if they will let us shop hoops from outside sources. It would be less revenue for PC.

PC ain't gonna change the hoop design. Like was earlier stated, its the same hoop for the F18/Infusion. | | | Re: Snuffer Dimensions

Posts: 1,304 Gulf Coast relocated from Cali... | Unlimited events such as long distance races and demonstration events may make exceptions to these Class Rules provided that sailors are notified in the Notice of Race. Jake, I am really looking for your input on this one as well. I was contacted by the SNU designer and asked if I would run one of these in the Tybee and the GT300 this year. How much resistance would I get from youguys if I raced with it? Both Dennis and myself are going to see if Jack will make them an option to be bought through PC. It's a long shot. If we have some support from youguys (like calling and voicing your opinion to Jack on the matter of giving us an alternative) it may give us a better option for the N20.
