Very Nice Thanks

Obviously Marstrom is not convinced that the Flyer philosophy is the way to go.

Does he think the curved boards will work better on his classic hull shape versus the Flyer inspired boats.

I'm a real geek for all the line control line rigging he did on this boat, can you (or anyone who knows) tell me what is the skinny red line coming up next to the mainsheet on the tramp? Is that the traveler? And the one that looks like a red loop pull-handle on the blue line on the tramp?

The skinny red line just aft of the main sheet is the traveler control. The red loop pull-handle is for the release of mast over rotation, it releases both cleats so you just pull it before or during the gybe.

The hull shape together with the curved centerboards performed well during the last A-cat worlds, Landenberg finished third.

I think there is one of these at my club, but it has a very different (more conventional) mast layout with a stainless mast rotator (will check next time i'm there).

Hakan, do you have any more photos of the trampoline fitting on the hull? I liked the look of it, and structurally it makes a lot of sense instead of the mushroom bolts etc.

More pics of the rudder system, beams, shroud fittings.. Lets make it simple and just say, do you have any more pictures? laugh

Great stuff, thanks a lot! Very inspirational.

I also enjoyed the movie with swedish commentary. I hope I did not kill your bandwith by downloading it. Will share it with the other F16 nutheads here on the west coast.

Its unusual(to me) that a designer within a class with so much developement would keep the boats so similar year after year. I have a 1998 boat, and it looks REAL similar. Now some of the controls are simplified, but the hulls, rudders, mainsheet system, mast systems are all the same. I do love the shroud attachments, simple and effective. My boat has raised tabs, sure to broken off at some point.
BTW, whats up with the paint? Did Goran buy a 1 million gallon can and is trying to use it all up, or is there some other reason for the yellow paint?

I think the bright yellow paint is a great marketing tool. Everyone knows at a distance who built that boat! And the M20, etc.

My wife wont let me paint my boards or rudders because she says she can spot me. Really, if she looked at the back of the pack, it wouldnt be that hard anyway...

Some are in Blue, so he probably has a quantity of both.

After one gazillion boats in white, yellow and blue is probably a nice change for the painter smile
Mix yellow and blue, and you get green. Perhaps the next color if they tire of blue and yellow.

Hi Dave,
if you compare this boat with a 1998 model most things have changed. Not obvious when you look at the pictures but here's a list.

Hulls: New shape with less rocker, flatter at the main beam and changes to the bow. Hulls are canted a bit. No internal bulkheads, can be seen in the pictures. Shroud fittings integrated in the hull as you noticed. This means that the whole hull is made in one piece with shroud fittings in place when it gets out of the owen.
Centerboards: Curved and higher aspect ratio
Rudders: Rudders are the same! But the fittings have changed a bit and it has "kick up" now.
Rear beam: New integrated traveller track in carbon.
Main beam: Strikerless design, still rock solid.
Mast: High modulous carbon fibre to stiffen it up sideways.
Boom: Same as before

cheers
Hakan

Who knows the colour of an Empacher rowing shell?

Colour is good for marketing, but I didn't know Marstrom only did yellow and blue. Maybe needs to reinforce that a bit more...somehow.

Hakan, thanks for the info on the changes, I did notice most of those, and had heard of the hull shape changes, but hard to tell from the pix. My point may have been....he had it pretty right 11 yrs ago!
I love my Marstrom, it will be hard for me to go to another boat. Someone did repaint it white though...

Here's a pic from the one at my club (also with banana boards).
This one has a much cleaner boom setup:

It looks like no center tramp sheeting, can you tell me how he is sheeting that puppy? Looks like a new boat...tapered beams and such.
