Posts: 15 | ok, well, i just spent an hour and a half trying to get those two small brittle 35+yr old nylon insert bolts, on the inside of the rudder casting (for tensioning the cam i guess, cams have always been broken and non functional on my boat as its been a project and never sailed yet) basicly, what is the name of the cam assembly, with the spring and nylock tensioner bolt and the bushing and the little black bearing i suppose it is, and does anyone have any spares??? im 17 and i only make 100 bucks a week @ work, with for 8 weeks , my paychecks go to paying off debts i owe, i was hoping to get the boat back together before then, right now theres two burt to a crist nylon bols stuck in the casting that ive tried everything i can to get out, i guess ill just continue at it with the propane torch till it totally burns out, im out of ideas. need to get these parts finished before tonight, ugh, hate rushing. thanks jason | | | Re: h14, very old, rudder casting problems

Posts: 15 | thanks so much for the advice, though ive somewhat damaged the threads of one of the castings, and im a bit worried about investing $ and ending up having another delrin screw stuck up there, a tap that size probably runs what, 15-20 bucks? not to mention a handle for it... anyone got some lower h-14-t castings they can let go of cheap to a 17 yr old independently restoring a very early model hobie 14 turbo?????? if not, i guess ill go buy all that crap, cuz the springs are shot, they arent the new style with the built in nipple shaped bushing that sits attop the sping, its the old style with the bearing seat and a black nylon ball, one ball was missing, so ill have to reorder all that, HO boy, boats, big holes in the water made for throwing money into :-) gotta love em thanks again jason | | |
