Unregistered | Carl, If you take the money you saved the money by not registering you boat for the last 3 years, $15. Apply that to the fine, $200. You will come out ahead in another 37 years! It only costs $5 to register a cat in MN? | | | Re: Tennessee sailors, I have a question.

Posts: 168 San Diego | My boat has no title but I had no problem registering it in NC with the wildlife commission. I think they require titles now for > 14' in length.
Getting a title for my untitled trailer through DMV was another story, an indemnity bond for a $200 trailer is ridiculous. | | | Re: Tennessee sailors, I have a question.

Posts: 4,119 Northfield Mn | $200.50. Why the $.50, you got me.... BCarlson, when I bought my new H16 in 06', I bought it in Iowa which has a 6% sales tax, we had a 6.5% sales tax at the time. The frickin' Minnesota DNR wanted me to kick in that .5% difference to the state of Minnesota. That pissed me off, and I would not have registered that boat either, but I had a loan on it, and needed to get a title. So I paid those m.f.er's their $37 that they thought I owed them. If it had an engine I'd understand. What I don't understand is why the **** wasn't pulling over one of the at least 500 powerboats that were hauling butt up and down the Mississippi, instead of screwing with the sailboat that was barely moving. | | | Re: Tennessee sailors, I have a question.

Unregistered | i assume the $0.50 is to cover all actual expenses associated with administrating tag regulations. the rest goes to other MN govt. budget items. I am being sarcastic (shocking i know) but probably close to true.
that being said.. i understand reg fees and have little problem with them. Reg and title is needed to monitor, manage, and investigate... just like the thread with the abandoned hobie 18... if it had reg numbers they would have solved the case much faster.
ok, let the bashing begin... | | | Re: Tennessee sailors, I have a question.

Karl, we all make choices and we have to live the with consequences of those choices. You chose not to register you boat and eventually got caught 3 years later. That was a risk you evidently were willing to take when you decided not to follow the law and properly register you boat, so don't be upset with the Minnesota DNR for enforcing a law that you willingly broke. I'm always amazed when someone gets caught doing something wrong and they try come off as the victim by making remarks like: "What I don't understand is why the **** wasn't pulling over one of the at least 500 powerboats that were hauling butt up and down the Mississippi, instead of screwing with the sailboat that was barely moving." Next time your here (dunedin) lets break some laws together... maybe picket the tax collector... | | | Re: Tennessee sailors, I have a question.

Posts: 48 Minneapolis, MN | Hey Karl, just wanted to make the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
I am not exactly sure how much it costs to register a boat in MN for 3 years, it is ridiculiously low though, $15 is what I remember, maybe $27. I recall thinking what they charge can barely cover the handling costs.
FYI in Wisconsin you don't have to register a racing boat, so as long as you are racing you should be okay. Explain that little known law to the Sheriff as he writes you a citation!
In MN boat trailer's can be up to 9'-6" wide without special permits, written to accommodate boats with a 9'-6" beam I suspect. Stretching the law, one could argue the legality of those fully enclosed catamaran trailers that exist, after all they were purposely built to haul a boat. | | | Re: Tennessee sailors, I have a question.
