The Canadian F18 Championship will be taking place on September 24-27, 2009 at the Etobicoke Yacht Club in Mississauga (Toronto), ON. 31 boats have already pre-registered as of August 24th with an anticipated attendance of 40+. This is shaping up to be one of the largest (if not biggest) F18 events in North America in 2009. For more info and the NOR go to www.multihull.ca

See you on the beach..eh?

35 boats now pre-registered as of August 30th. Go to www.multihull.ca for the NOR. Looks more and more like this event will have north of 40 boats in attendance.

15 September 2009 Update:

37 boats now registered. I personally know of 3 boats that are going but not yet registered. That puts the event at 40 with more to come. For more info and the NOR go to www.multihull.ca Don't miss the largest F18 event in North America this year. Matt Bounds is the PRO...so good race courses are guaranteed.

See you on the start line!

The schedule for thursday is to have the clinic in the late morning and early afternoon , possibly with some on water practice after that, then boat weighing/registration until 8 or 9pm.

Gunnar can't make it but we have another world class sailor giving some instruction who is Kevin Stittle, crew on the 4th place Tornado team in Beijing. The seminar isn't totally nailed down but that is the preliminary plan.

I was on the fence (New England Fleet) but it looks like my son is unable to crew, as it means taking him out of school. Have fun up there in Toronto!

Any other Americans having a hard time with the 1 million insurance requirement?
My insurance company cannot give it to me and another boat from my area is having the same problem.
1 million is awfully high for the US... Tybee required 100K and NAF18s required 150K
Have call in to Karen-Ann about this... if anyone else can help it'd be much appreciated.
Short of cancelling my policy to go with another company and spending a lot more money I am out of options. I would hate not to go to this event because of this.

How many F18s will be at Roton Point, practicing (or helping others practice) for the Canadians?

No problem with one Million with Insurance with them and a discount with US Sailing membership and was cheaper then what I was paying and better insurance

Sarah's awesome - give her a chance to earn your business. Plenty of threads here on Catsailor about insurance.

Talked to Sarah.. I actually grew up with her daughter and coached her son years ago.
It's quite a bit more through them and the deductible is a lot more. I'd also have to pay extra for the $1mil coverage for the whole year even though I would never need it again. I'm not worth anything so I don't have to worry about that!
Not quite sure I can afford to spend more for liability for one regatta...

Mike... probably 10-12... what we've roughly had for every other regatta.

We are just reviewing the insurance requirements with the yacht club where the event is being hosted. They should be ok with a lower limit; I don't see any reason why not. Will let you know ASAP.

Thanks dave... I was waiting to hear from Karen-Ann... getting a little nervous with all the plans in limbo on this one.

Dave, any news on that compass requirement and not allowing a GPS on board?

Class Rule E.4 requires a "fixed steering compass".

I didn't see anything prohibiting a GPS.

RRS 87 requires the permission of the Class Association to change a class rule:
Quote
87 CHANGES TO CLASS RULES
The sailing instructions may change a class rule only when the class rules permit the change, or when written permission of the class association for the change is displayed on the official notice board.

I'm writing the SI's this weekend, so somebody needs to let me know what's happening - including the insurance limits. That will require a revised NOR.

We have had many debates on the compass/gps questions, and the F18 rules aren't specific on GPS but for this event they are not allowed. We are also requiring a compass, doesn't have to be a fancy one, just anything.
