Dear All,

I've got a fairly old Wave and I'm having a little trouble with my rudders. They are rising slightly while moving along so they are no longer pointing downwards and are about half way between being down and up. I put them back into place but a few minutes later they are up again. I think in the instructions there was a way to "tighten" them up but had trouble understanding what I need to do. So I'd really appreciate an "idiots" guide to what I need to do to stop this happening. It may not have any bearing on the problem but I'm sailing off the coast of the Island of Wight, England.

Regards, Tim

Apparently they are not locking down. To lock them you push straight back on the tiller arm and once the rudder is in position, push down on the tiller arm and it should lock. Take a look at the cam and see if it is in the correct position to lock down. If it looks like a duck bill, then it won't lock down. So, take a large screwdriver and flip the cam so the duck bill is not showing. Then it should lock down.
If it doesn't, you may need to replace some parts. On our www.OnLineMarineStore.com we do sell parts to repair the rudder cams. You might need to replace the cam and push rod.

Review the FAQ about rudder cams here:

Hobie Rudder Cam FAQ

Yes, it is quite possible that your "cams" are in the locked down position, but the tiller arms have released from them. This is all described in my cam FAQ.

Dear All,

I'm sorry but I'm having trouble understanding the instructions so I've taken some photos in the hope that someone can relate what I need to do with the pictures I've taken.

(for some reason the pictures aren't showing on my preview so if the pictures don't appear I may need advice on posting them, sorry).

Regards, Tim

P.S. I cannot load the pictures because they are too high res. I'll try and reduce them.

Pictures did not come through. Delete that post and start over. Or if it is too late to delete it, make a whole new one. After you put in your text, underneath the reply window is "File Manager." Click on that, and then on "Browse" to find the picture you want. Open that file, and then click on "Add file." you can add more up to 3. Then click on "Done adding files." And then on "Submit."
