I would like to modify trampoline on my N20 for the new style. Something like this one

Should I get Nylon or Polyester tubular webbing?

How about bolt rope? Size, type? Where can I get one?

THX

Kris

Kris,
I used the tubular webbing over the bolt rope. I got them from Skip Elliot, who can also supply the bolt rope. I went to them and really like them a lot more than the rod system.

From what I saw and read “rod” system will distribute weight equally and will not pull bolt rope from the trampoline track – seen that happen with tubular webbing loops.

I know I could get everything from EP but I want to make it myself. I’m having hard time finding right bolt rope shown in the picture. In the worst case I will reuse boltrope that I pulled form trampoline.

The trampoline boltrope was usually the problem in the first place. I used sail slugs. I haven't had any problems yet in 4 years with them pulling out.
I bought a trampoline from a guy in Fl a few years ago to have a spare and loaned it to someone. It pulled out of the track the first day they used it. I've since had it cut and added loops for the side lacing.

We tried the sail slugs and it F'ed up our tramp track when they all pulled out the first time sailing.

Stay with the original system or go to Skip, no sense in reinventing the wheel!

If you get the right size slugs, they wont pull out.

YES THEY WILL! We had the same slugs as Rick Bliss and Chris Titcomb.. tried two different sizes.
And when they pull out they damage the glass and gelcoat.
Could probably find everything necessary with Bainbridge, where most sailmakers get their stuff.

I’m not going to use slugs. They have small surface area where they touch trampoline track therefore it is high probability for one to come out leaving nasty opening in the track. If track was aluminum then it is different ball game.

I still need “hint” where to get bolt rope what size and what kind. The one on the picture looks like it is braided rope (no core).

There are plenty of websites that sale tubular webbing and I will go with nylon. The fiber glass stick can be purchased form McMaster.

So I’m only missing bolt rope – help appreciated.

THX

Kris

Kris, I would use the fiberglass rod instead of the boltrope. Todd, maybe there are some variances in the hulls. I think our boats were the same year too. Mine is an 01 and I had Tony Morrelli do my first tramp and he gave me the slugs that I use today. I get that thing tighter than a snare drum and havent had any issues with it.

You guys, just like Tad, need to quit screwing around with the broken system. Tilt the hull, fill the track, and add the screws/bolts just like the newer boats have. Use the center of the updated tramp and voila!......you've got the newest version that won't break.

Survey says........?

How much weight is added filling the crack? I haven't had any troubles with mine whatsoever, so I'm not changing it till I do. I wondered about adding the screw/buttons. Good to know someone actually has done it. Any pictures?

I would like to see pictures of this new system too.

Matt form Sailrite suggested using http://www.sailrite.com/Sta-Set-Double-Braid-Line-3-8-10mm-White.

To my knowledge, nobody has done it yet. There's no reason it won't work. Just use some epoxy thickened with micro balloons and then add the screws in like the new boats have.

The weight added will be negligible. 5 lbs doesn't matter on a N20.

the harder the line the better. I like the idea of a glass rod but would you be able to thread it ok?
I made new wing nets for my F31 and used single braid nylon line (like what one would use for dock line) and has worked. Polypropylene line is what is used in some of the "original" I20 tramps as bolt ropes (quotes are because I ain't sure, but the one I rebuilt was likely an original from 1999 and had a polypro rope). something non-compresible is what you want and I think sta-set is probably too compressible.

Lee... my boat was an 04... other two boats I knew of that used slugs at one point were both 01s.
Don't even think it would add 5 lbs to fill the track... my concern would be lack of backing plates (then again I don't even know if the infusions have them) I guess if you could screw into the thickened epoxy filling the track that would be the ideal situation.
