Posts: 9,582 North-West Europe | We have applied to get the F16 class included in the Delta Llyod North Sea Regatta next month. ... It will be awesome promotion or F16 if we can get this happening. ... Wouter? You have the most contacts for F16 in the Netherlands. Can you contact everyone or pass them on to me.
I will do what I can. Personally, I feel the Spitfires will be most welcome to share a class with us. Wouter

Don't want to stir up a can of worms here but is there a reason the spitfire isn't F16 compliant? Couldn't find a reason in the archives - seemed to start off being part of the class and then not. I doubt I can make it, I'm in the last throws of completing my MSc dissertation and finish two law essays, so I've had hardly any time on the boat and don't know my butt from my elbow yet, especially sailing one up, which is new to me (but great!). Also owe my family a holiday which this could cut into. | | | Re: F16 @ North Sea Regatta

Posts: 242 Brisveagas | Gill, the north sea regatta is the perfect place to showcase the class. The will be lots of f18s and lots of sailors in general. The venue is great and the regatta is extremely well organized. The trophys are some of the coolest ones you'll see as well.
IMO the spitfire should be allowed to compete just make the 10 boat cut off, if not to get more boats on the water. Realistically they are no longer as quick as the modern f16s so there shouldn't be a problem. If a spitfire won the event they would definitely deserve it.
I wish I could go.

The Spits were always none-compliant in the strickt sense but I (as the class chairman in the first years) always invited them and envisioned the two classes joining forces. The grandfather rule was specifically written to allow the Spits and other makes that were very similar to compete in F16 events. The reason for this rule was to consilidate the cat scene into a F16 class in this area of boat specs and use. I felt it was not wise to ask these sailors to just sell their boats and buy an F16 especially when their current boats were so similar in performance anyway. I felt it was much more important to have more boats on the line and provide sailing enjoyment for all. I personally do not think that there was enough difference between the boats to make the racing unfair; and that is eventually the only real consideration in a formula class. In time the two classes could have migrated to a single uniform class. A similar thing happened with the pre-F16 Stealths. I think all of these were eventually modified into fully compliant boats and retained much of their resale value. I felt it was wise to not try to beat (and kill) the other class but to coopt them and provide for a smooth transitional path that saved the personal investments of the owners. I still believe this is the most wise course to take. The new leadership in the F16 class has different idea's in this respect and that is when the Spits were "disinvited". I still feel that is a pitty as the process of courting over many years was starting to bear fruit so to say. Other then that I feel we must be realistic with ourselves. Guaranteeing over 10 participating F16-boats at the NSR with a 30 days notice is a tall order. The Dutch F16 class has been a bit disfunctional lately. I personally hadn't planned to take my own boat out of winter storage till june/july due to work obligations. Wouter

Posts: 954 Mumbles Y.C Wales U.K | Hi Phile The difference in cost between the US gallon and imperial Gallon is due to the US gallon being roughly 1.5 pints less. So this was taken into consideration whilst doing my workings out as I thought it would be easier for people to understand. So that is why there is difference between the US Dollar cost and AUS Dollar cost of a "gallon" MP*MULTIHULLS | | | Re: F16 @ North Sea Regatta

Posts: 267 Switzerland | I doubt anybody from the UK will be attending. [...] it soon becomes a very expensive hobby. Therefore, one trip to Italy and the F16 Euro's is basically all I can afford both numerically and family. However, I'm sure there are enough mainland F16's to make up the numbers, it's just a shame of the relatively short notice. Same here, my only outing this year will be Italy. And even sharing costs with Mark (taking his van and double stacking) between the ferry (£325), the tolls (€40), petrol (€300), the Swiss vignettes (€54) , the hotel stop on the way (€80), the accommodation in Gravedona (€250pp), the regatta fee (€200pp) and the necessary food (€) and alcohol (€€€€€€) funds it's going to be an expensive trip. But they say Como is really nice, I'm not sure a week end in the north sea in the middle of may can compare with a week in Italy in July BTW a swiss vignette cost's you 40 SFR ~> 30 Euro | | |
