Is there a product out there other than tarp that can be applied to tramps to protect from UV?

there is a product called 303 High Tech Fabric Guard. i have used their other product on my hulls. it works well but i have never tried the fabric guard. i am sure it works but i am not sure if it is slippery (a very bad thing on a tramp) after applied.

To protect Trampolines from UV, I really like those “way-cool” custom-made Sunbrella hull and tramp covers.

However, for my purposes and to also protect my limited bank account....I've found that a cheap blue tarp or a garden type shade clothe (purchased from a place like Home Depot or even cheaper, Harbor Freight) works quite well.

The cheap blue plastic tarp lasts for a season or two, depending on how much wind-flapping it is subjected to, when covering the tramp during storage when not sailing.

The shade clothe lasts forever and is lots tougher and resists wind-flapping.

I'd also add that when I use these in a mast-up storage setting, I've tried various ways of affixing the blue tarp or shade clothe cover to the boat.

This is just another cheap and easy way of accomplishing the same goal.

I have used the silver COSTCO tarps in the past and they work well. I just make it a point to get a new one every year

Salty Dog Marine use to make a tramp only cover, but have not been able to find them recently; are they still in business?

Also, the Sunrise Tramp holds up very well to the UV.

Another great source of "stuff" is Sailrite at:

Thanks Jake! That was exactly what I was looking for. Problem solved, I'll just build a roof. What is best? Tile, shingle or gravel? What pitch do you suggest for the South Florida weather? I would lean towards hot process but I am open to other methods. Maybe I could use epoxy with carbon frickin fibre attached to 4' lolly columns and 2' rafter sections. Or, spray with the 303 Andrew suggested.

I think over time the roof will degrade... better off digging a bunker for it smile

Is the bunker cheaper than the 303? I may have to consult Todd on the bunker construction. If I have to build a bunker it is going to have twin 50cal turret on the top.

I can tell you from first hand knowledge to avoid 303 on the tramp. Althogh it looks GREAT! its slick as snot! No one got hurt but it was 'bambi on ice' for a couple of go rounds. we laughed till our guts wanted to bust. it was so funny watching us slide around. If only i could have grabbed the ring and hooked up as i shot across the tramp. we could have had some 3 sec tacks!!! i'm laughing again thinking about that... you could bring some along to your next race and use it on your buddies tramp smile

A bunker in florida can also double as a swimming pool/hot tub depending on time of year.
