Hello

I have just bought a new house and an old Mosquito came with it ....

The original alloy beams are badly pitted / corroded , the hulls appear sound.

I would like to replace the beams , but do not know what the section is , or where to order new ones .

Can anyone help with this information please ?

P.S....Forgot to mention........ I`m in Adelaide , South Australia.

Victor where are you? First stop would be here .If Phillip can't help let me know as I'm currently getting the gear together for a new boat and will be getting a set of "custom" beams made up by one of my ali boat building clients. The third option is I have a set of used beams here you can have cheap if you want them. They're off the old wooden boat I just picked up for parts.

Both beams are nominally 50x39 (+/-1) with a minimum wall thickness of 3mm. Most ali suppliers stock a 50x40x3 with square corners. G.James have a 50x40x5 with radius corners but I'm waiting to hear back from them on the radius as your only allowed up to 2mm.

edit: Sorry just noticed your location. Ignore me.

Hi Victor,

I was able to source Alloy tube to beam specs from the local aluminium fabricator/seller in country Vic. That was the original idea I believe, that the beam was a readily available section not restricted to marine suppliers.

So check the specs from the National Mosquito Website here http://home.vicnet.net.au/~nmcca/documents.htm
look in Building Rules & Restrictions and check your local supplier.

Thank you thricebitten.

I looked up the rules , it clearly states what is required .I don`t think this will be too difficult after all.

This is a very helpful friendly group.
