Hi all - I just purchased a 2007 Nacra Infusion. Picking up the MkII boards in Madrid on my way home from the Canaries in a few weeks. Suffice to say - my schedule is chaotic!

I know I can make 2012 Worlds. But I would like to plan for what events I can actually make between now and then. Am I just missing the calendar or does one exist?

Cheers,
Karl Funk

49 views and no responses...? I have had this same trouble with finding a truly comprehensive calendar. Seems like most of the events are word of mouth or past participants expecting events to run on the same dates as previous years. Doesn't help newbies plan their calendars very well though, especially those with full calendars. The NAF18 site has a calendar but it doesn't have all events and right now doesn't have anything for 2012...

Karl if I were you I'd contact some folks in the area you will be sailing and get some idea from them dates of events, or maybe an email group (what we have in the NW) to talk about when events are happening.

Go Queefieboat! (ducking and running...)

Paul went to the annual meeting on our behalf tonight - so more is known. Would be nice to see it published though.

One thing is looking likely - with my lack of experience Paul will probably have to drive - but that is fine with me. I only have time for a couple events before Worlds. We will do heaps of training otherwise. Probably leave the boat in Florida over the winter.

Standard cat-hearding with sailors right?

Cheers,
Karl

PS - call it whatever you want - the name will be on the transom for you to squint at.

If your boat is based in FL there are a bunch of great regattas and distance races here. I only jumped into the F18 class last January and did a bunch of them. Consider Steeplechase in early December, Tradewinds in Jan, Port Charlotte in Feb, Macho Man in March, Miami-Key Largo in April (I think) and Islander Run to Key West in May. In between, there are a load of short course races. The Sarasota Sailing Squadron, where I am based now has 5-6 F18's and is a great club. We'd be happy to see you here.

Thanks. But that is a perfect example of what I am struggling with. I cannot find any information about the Macho Man event. Or the Miami-Key Largo (other than a site for the 2011 event). The few events I am able to track down actual or possible dates for I have conflicts with anyhow - which is all the more reason to want an actual calendar. But maybe that just isn't a catamaran world thing...

Yes a comprehensive calendar can be hard to come by but it's not for a lack of trying. Rick has a schedule that he maintains on this site but the schedule is only as good as the information provided. Below are two very well attended F18 events that were pulled directly from the schedule on this site:

Jan 13-15 -- Tradewinds Midwinter Open Cat Nationals/NAMSA NAs, 3-days of racing (even if you can only make Sat/Sun, you will get scored your average for Friday). This is the biggest event of the winter. Carlton Tucker Memorial Award to Winner of the Largest Class, Also, F18 Midwinters, F16 Midwinters, Shark Midwinters, Wave National Series Regatta, Harken Buoy Series (1st for 2010 and Awards for 2009), rick@catsailor.com, 305-451-3287, For PreRegistration: http://www.catsailor.com/registration/ Here is the Notice of Race Info: http://www.catsailor.com/Tradewinds.html

Feb 2-5 -- 3rd Annual Charlotte Harbor Regatta, Expected Classes: Wave, F16, F18, H16, Weta, & Windrider. www.charlotteharborregatta.com, 941-201-1133

For club races you can try Gulfport Yacht Club, they race the first and third weekend of the month.

You probably won't find info on the Macho Man, it's not that kind of regatta. The Macho Man is strictly run what you brung, no OA, line honors event where second place is just the first loser. It's a bit of a longish distance race (65 miles) for most weekend racers so it's typically lightly attended when it happens. TBCS tries to organize it but it's really just up to the group of the willing if and when it happens. If you want it to happen Mr. "we do better in the monohull fleet" start talking some trash and I'm sure you'll spark the interest those anxious to stick it to a monohuller. Yes, we can be just as bigoted about our rides as those in the monohull fleet.

As for the Miami Key Largo regatta, that one is almost always a secret.

Welcome to the multihull fleet, <some derogatory remark towards monohulls here>

Is the Tradewinds registration working for anyone? Looks buggered from my desk.

Thanks for the reply David. I am trying to make the Tradewinds but it conflicts with KWRW. For Charlotte Harbor I will unfortunately be in Lanzarote.

I know my monohull sailing schedule into the first half of 2013. I don't see why the comparison is bigoted. I am just looking for other events to commit to so I can come and learn and have fun with the rest of you. This is going to be a completely different experience for me and I am really looking forward to it!

Cheers,
Karl

If you do not look up the basis for the name of the boat and realize this program is all about fun than you will have a lot to learn about Karl. AND original name is far funnier than anything you can come up with DA....

JD - Thanks for the list. Sounds like I need to do some more exploring around the web site and forums as well. Typical newbie BS!

Womens clinic, eh? Sounds fun. =)

Just found out I have been spelling my own boat name wrong! Ha!

Cheers,
Karl

Karl, I may be driving a trailer down with some empty space in time for Tradewinds. We're only doing Catacup, Steeplechase, and tradewinds so I can't help you after tradewinds. Not sure your role on the boat for KW but if you can miss the 3 days before you can do tradewinds and still make it in time for race day. My crew may be doing that to race on anema core.
