That huge sailboat was probably Larry Ellisons yacht, its a big blue ketch.
They must have pushed pretty hard to get from Plymouth to SD in two months.
AC45s still doing 17kts in what cant be much more than 10kts of wind.

OMG, Annie just said that because of the apparent wind generated by multihulls, the sails are trimmed in more while going downwind "than NORMAL boats."

So much for not taking the Hobie out of the sailor...

Wow, Artemis kept Aleph out of the box, nice pre-start move.

Unbelieveable! I step away, thinking it's game over, then Aleph comes back... only to have the race abandoned!

Wow...

Well, the first attempt was abandoned, apparently due to a technical glitch after a major shift.

Now in the restart, after the first gate, the breeze is really dropping... like watching H16s race... wink

Wow, Artemis was ahead by about a minute at the windward gate, failed to cover, Aleph got a huge puff to the left side, and is smoking down the course. Lucky for Artemis, the course was shortened (distance), so they are able to stay ahead at the next leeward gate, but not by much (17 seconds)...

I see. Artemis wanted to have starboard advantage at the cross. Almost didn't work, but they got back ahead at the last windward gate.

Tony, Luiz: Other than feeling like they got screwed by the abandonment, why do you feel Aleph "should have won" the last match?

It seemed like they were outsailed at both starts. They caught a lucky shift in the first attempt (abandoned race), and nearly caught another in the second.

Yes, they won all the races prior to that, but why do you think they "deserved" to win?

BTW, Artemis definitely know they were lucky to escape with the win. I got tired of the looping video with the commentators (it kept going back to the prior windward mark rounding as the boats were approaching the final leeward mark), so I changed it to the onboard view/audio. You wouldn't believe the looks and comments from the Artemis sailors as they approached the finish...

SF1, M1: Oracle Spithill (with Uncle Larry aboard as the extra weight), spanking TNZ at the moment...

No extra pressure on Stan's team to "keep the lights working" do you think?

SF2, M1: Energy lets Artemis cross in pre-start. Weird...
