Hi Guys
Just wondering if some one can point me in the right direction as I recently bought the Boyer moulds and about to start the laminating of the hulls. In order for the platform to be 55kg can any one tell me what one bare hull should weigh as a guide? A hull only weight would be best but a whole hull is fine, can any one help?
Cheers
Damien

its usally between 25 to 27 kgs per hull. the other free kgs are used in the beams and tramp! all depends what weight of glass and resign you use.
Good luck

Damien,

this is the laminate I was going to use. Note, I've left the core 50mm shy of the gunwales so you can add the flanges after curing and clear of the areas where chain plates would fit as I was going to do composite chain plates which work best on a solid skin. If you want those drawings I'll email them through.

If you infuse like I believe you planned, this laminate should result in a hull skin weight of about 11-12kg leaving you heaps of weight for decks, bulkheads etc. whatevber you do, don't let anyone talk you in to using 0/90 cloth (of any kind) as any fibres wrapped around the hull will be worthless and make no contribution to your stiffness. Thanks Matt

Cheers for the info Scarecrow also, this helps heaps and yes I will be using the infusion process. A mate will be helping me with the core process as I have only used the infusion process with laminate only. Buy the way thanks for all the other gear you tossed in it was a surprise when it all arrived "Thank you"
Cheers
Damien :-)

Damo,

Bare hull weight with deck on maximum 20.75Kgs. Most recent hull have been in the order of 19.0 to 20Kgs and the complete platforms have been coming in around 52 to 53 kgs.

Cheers
Peter

Damien if you would like to know the Boyer layup to produce 19 to 20 kg hulls I have it all in my head as I used to build them. It's really only three layers of glass or what ever your choice and some unidirectional to reinforce areas with frames in it. If you want to know more email me [email protected]
