Damn, that's not good.

I got between 11mpg and 12mpg pulling 7 x F18's from Long Beach CA to Eustis, FL.

Yeahbut...you had a Tailwind Mike!

And you probably went fast enough to get that trailer planing!

Remember, Karl's also hauling his new custom toy box, wich is bigger than my first dorm room!

How cold is it? Cold air will kill your gas mileage.

That's 7 HEAVY F18's and Karl is towing 3 light weight F16's. Even with the Cummings it is still a Dodge Karl, you only have yourself to blame.

14mph headwind..... That and I was going a bit faster than I probably should've been. Much over 70 and that thing just gets into the wrong rpm range and the mileage just tanks. Plus I think we've switched to winter fuel up here already. I know gasoline has.

Best I've ever done was 8 cats on one trailer and I pulled just shy of 13mpg. That was with a 24' enclosed though. The windage on these things is just wretched.

I will say that Krantz's Van is about the only road legal Ford I'd consider owning.

11.84mpg, lose the nasty headwind, drop 3mph and things are a bit more reasonable.

Should be there before 2pm. Way earlier if we don't stop for breakfast.

I had a buddy of mine call me from Des Moines asking where the hell the Catamaran guy was going with 3 stacked this time of year (saw you on I35 near Ankeny) and he was not suprised when I knew who it was and where he was going. Good luck at the regatta. Stay dryer than you did in Wisconsin

That is so strange, and proof the world is way too small.

Good luck to all those who are sailing the event, the snow storm here in Mass last night really made me wish I was joining you!

Anyone want to make predictions?

My top three:
1. Newberry/Casey: Lots of experience and recent time in the boat
2. Easton/Burd: Coming off a top ten at F18 worlds, but forecast looks light for a big team
3. Reiss/Chu: Lots of F16 experience here, and well suited to a light event

Other teams that look super fast:
Ravi Parent/Dalton Tebo: Ravi was impressive in Hyannis, and Dalton is a straight up super crew
Randy Smyth/Joe Bello: Randy is a legend, and Joe is a solid crew coming off a nice worlds
Enrique Figueroa: Another legend, had a nice F18 worlds on a new boat

Edit: I omitted Sarah Streater/Matt Whitehead in my original post... too many good teams to keep track of!

Overall, a great looking field- stoked for the US F16 class!

? I would have thought the inverse were true.

Cold air is denser, so you get more hp from burning it (PV=nRT)
Cold air is, well, colder, so you get a greater temperature difference pre- vs. post-combustion

Perhaps pushing a car through colder/denser air requires more force, but I can't see it needing THAT much more force...

I know I could turn better numbers at the track with my old 300ZX TT when it was cold out or I used nitrous in the intercooler (the cold nitrous chilled the rest of the air so I got triple points - nitrous + colder intake air + higher boost pressure from the expanding nitrous).

Now, keeping the dang thing on the pavement was a bigger issue for me (there was some odd electronic rear-wheel "Hicas" steering thingy that kept screwing up. I suspect it was one of the early Stability control things Nissan thought of. That little light blinked more than a discotek on a friday night)

That Hicas module did it's best to put me into the guardrail.

I took my 300ZX TT into the local speed shop and told them that driving on wet pavement was like driving on ice. It was all I could do to keep it between the lines. They put it up on the body lift, and you could see the rear axle twitching side to side all on it's own.

I had them disable the Hicas, and install a bypass frame into the rear end. Still drives like it's on rails today...

Cold will make more power all the way around.
More oxygen, colder intercooler as well. In some respects more fuel because it has less volume per unit of energy.

but. Your drivetrain is colder as well. Thicker fluids mean more drag. Eventually they come up to temp though.

Wow that might be the tightest point spread I've ever seen four deep at any major regatta. Is there a story?
