Hi Dave
We see larger events and groups of 20s all starting together . --
Suppose the Tybee 500 Atlantic 1000 is a good example ,-it has N 6/0s and Inter 20s ,--the 6/0s just as fast in straight line speed .
Thinking of a different 20 platform from this list and placing the Inter 20 cf mast and sail plan on it .
Its time something happens
Problems encountered with F-20 concept and rules ,---numerous problems and conflicting interests >--the Hobie only mentality --failure of the Fox --different specs of the lighter Inter 20 that dominated 20 racing ,--the brand seperate ingrained mentality of 6/0s fleet and "brand class" definition ,-- many small fleets of brand class like there own small group ,--as per Hobie -
-no dealer support for Formula 20 ,--no H-20 sailors believing a H-20 can ever compete with a Inter 20 --
Porthmouth rating that reinforces "brand class" mentalities being defined by "brand " rather than design measurement boat specifications ,--- offering rated racing as "only option" etc etc --has made it an increasingly difficult windmill to topple .
These are {existing conditions } it is difficult to overcome these and effect them without dealer or boat support ,--all we have is a group of semi -interested sailors spread out across N A .
The establishment of another F class in the F-14 actually helps all Formula and A class / development type classes.
iT IS A MATTER OF TIME AND GENERAL ACCEPTANCE ,it will go ,and we will see Formula 20 racing in some other forms than just small informal mixed 20 fleets and all 20s racing together in the same start though time rated ,--
Tempted to just import a good HT lightweight 20 --start a boat dealership or work with an existing one ,-and start a HT 20 class based on the Marstom 20 and Ventilo 20 ht designs .---under 300 Lbs --much faster with more beam .
I forsee most all racing being in Formula categories 14 16 18 20s unlimited - in 2 categories in each Length --
and single handed formula 18 -A s -and a spin class in up to 18s and conserving a o d classes ,-but integrating most within a Formula class concept in each L category .
We are getting there ,--slowly but surely
A number of catsailors are tired of H-brand class exclusionary policy ---Formula similar design groups are the best option for good large class racing organizational groups and the future of the sport.
