If you're looking for a personal radio, check any swimming catalogue. They are waterproof, small/light, and pretty reasonable.
Sony used to make a pretty rugged boom-box (bright yellow, too).
How about a boom box in a waterproof bag? Guess that would make for hard times when you had to switch CDs or something.
Or maybe XM/Sirius in a waterproof bag?

Posts: 157 Framingham, MA | Why go so big? With a little effort we have made a custom system that truly rocks. We have raced many races including the T500, OBX500, steeplechase, and New England 100 with an MP3 player with waterproof speakers and a canabalized amplifier off of a set of portable battery powered speakers. The system all fit in a very small tupperwear container with the speakers attached inside of the tramp launch spin bag. We were sure to find an MP3 player with enough memory and battery life so that we never heard the same song on the same day. It took some minor adjustments and engineering work to get the whole thing going, but it has proved itself invaluable, especially on light air days. Actually, i think Rick did a small article on the music system during the 2003 T500. Chris Team Accelerated Chaos www.acceleratedchaos.com | | | Re: FM Radio

Posts: 1,066 Wellington, FL-Singer Island, ... | Chris, sounds like a lot of work. Mine can also be used as a portable party. In Florida during the summer, it rains every afternoon for a couple of hours. If we get caught out away from a tiki bar we just hit the shore and grab the radio and cooler and have our own party until the storm passes. The entire set-up weighs less than ten pounds. I only weigh 140 lbs and my team mate, Rob, doesn't weigh much more than I do. Eric, I figured that was the reason for the post. Got it at Brands mart for around $100. It really helps during the light wind times. I almost capsized once because I had great wind and was flying the hull by myself. the radio slipped down and accidentally switched channels from Stone Temple Pilots to Barry Manilow. Craig, bring that monster down to the Tradewinds and lets drink some rum at the Tiki Bar!

The "system" we deployed is classified and military in nature. We were digital in an analog world!
